Conestoga Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine is a medical practice devoted to the specialties of pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine. Our physicians provide consultative services for all forms of pulmonary and sleep disorders, diagnostic evaluations, and treatment recommendations for both in-patients and out-patients.

The practice was formed in 1997 and consists of the following seven providers:

All of the providers are certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine in pulmonary medicine, with additional certifications in critical care and sleep medicine.

In addition to our physicians, the office is staffed with a team of professional, dedicated individuals:

Starting in the year 2011, we have opened a Center for Asthma Management, which provides extensive evaluation, diagnosis, and medical management by our team of Pulmonary Specialist and our Certified Asthma Counselors for the treatment of asthma.

Physicians / Providers:

Lloyd G. Goldfarb, MD

Dr. Goldfarb graduated from the City University of New York-Brooklyn College in 1974, and received his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1978. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Cornell University Cooperating Hospitals (North Shore University Hospital), Manhasset, NY in 1981. Dr. Goldfarb completed a fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1983. Dr. Goldfarb is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Goldfarb is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, a member of the American Thoracic Society and Pennsylvania Medical Society.

Dr. Goldfarb has been practicing medicine in Lancaster County since 1983. He and his wife have two children.

John Joseph, MD

Dr. Joseph graduated from the University of Michigan in 1978, and received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1983. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Highland General Hospital, Oakland, CA and University of California, San Francisco, CA in 1987. Dr. Joseph completed a Pulmonary fellowship at VA Medical Center, Martinez, CA and University of California, Davis, CA in 1989.  Dr. Joseph is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Joseph is a member of the American Thoracic Society, American Association of Sleep Medicine, American College of Physicians, and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.

Dr. Joseph has been practicing medicine in Lancaster County since 2004. Prior to moving to Lancaster County he practiced medicine in the state of Washington for 14 years. He and his wife have three children.

Scott D. Silverstein, DO

Dr. Silverstein graduated from Muhlenberg College in 1977, and received his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1982. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Kennedy Memorial Hospital, Stratford, NJ in 1985. Dr. Silverstein completed a fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at Kennedy Memorial Hospital in 1987. Dr. Silverstein is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Diseases of the Chest.

Dr. Silverstein is a member of American College of Osteopathic Internists, American Osteopathic Association, Lancaster Osteopathic Medical Society, Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Society, Society of Critical Care Medicine, Tri State Society of Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Rehab and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.

Dr. Silverstein has been practicing medicine in Lancaster County since 1989. He has two sons.

Robert A. Matlin, M.D.

Dr. Matlin graduated from the Queens College, University of New York in 1965 and received his medical degree from Downstate Medical School, State University of New York in 1969. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center, New York in 1972. Dr. Matlin completed a fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center in 1976. Dr. Matlin is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine.

Dr. Matlin is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, a member of the American Thoracic Society, American College of Physicians, Fleischner Society, and the Pennsylvania Thoracic Society.

Dr. Matlin has been practicing medicine in Lancaster County since 1976.

Meera Ranganathan, M.D.

Dr. Ranganathan received her medical degree from M.S. Ramaiah College, Bangalore, India in 1989 and completed a one-year rotating internship at M.S. Ramaiah teaching hospital. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Atlantic City Medical Center, Atlantic City, NJ. She completed a Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Fellowship at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark, NJ in 2000. Dr. Ranganathan is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Ranganathan is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, Pennsylvania Medical Society, American Thoracic Society, and OSMA.

Prior to moving to Lancaster County, she practiced medicine in the state of Ohio for three years. She also practiced in New Zealand and India.

Sheela Ahmed, M.D.

Dr. Ahmed received her medical degree from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, India. She completed her residency at New York Medical College and Oregon Health and Sciences University. She completed her fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care at Oregon Health and Sciences University. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Critical Care.

Dr. Ahmed is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. She is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Sleep Association, and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.

 

Melanie M. Diperna, PA-C

Melanie Diperna, PA-C received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Bucknell University and her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from DeSales University in 2008. She completed her clinical rotations as various facilities in the greater Allentown area, including Lehigh Valley Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital, and several private practices. Melanie is a certified physician assistant through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Melanie is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. She has been practicing medicine in Lancaster County since 2008.
